Overview

Nimbulist 2.0 is a quick, no frills list manager that syncs with the Evernote cloud note taking service. It is for making and editing checklists with minimal required touches. It is not a complete Evernote client but instead is optimized for easy entry, ordering and checking off of list items. This results in some limits on the apps functionality.

1) Items may be checked or unchecked by Nimbulist but the actual item text once created is only editable using other Evernote Clients.

2) While items within a list can be re-ordered, the lists themselves cannot.

3) Only notes created by Nimbulist or having the Nimbulist tag in Evernote will sync with the App.

The main audience for Nimbulist is Evernote users who want a simpler and quicker way to check off and add items to lists which they manage in Evernote. Nimbulist can be used without Evernote, but we recommend it mostly for Evernote users.

Basics

The core idea behind Nimbulist is simplicity. Rather than creating a fancy, slow to load and difficult to understand custom UI,  we use the standard iOS list view, so all your lists show up in the main view like this:

Touching the list brings up the detail view for that list:

By touching the checkbox you can toggle the todo state.

On the iPad you can see both your list of of lists and the current list items at the same time using a split view controller. Otherwise the app works essentially the same on both devices.

For either view, adding a new item is easy. Just select the text edit at the top of the list and start typing. When you are done, the new item or list will be created. If you want to delete an item, you can use the swipe left gesture on a list item and a delete button will appear:

Adjusting the order of elements by hand is a breeze using list edit mode. Just touch the edit button in the top right corner and drag the list elements by using the reorder control which appears on the right.

Synchronizing and Settings

There are only two buttons in the toolbar: on the left, the sync button on the left causes the app to sync with your Evernote account, and on the right, the button that brings up a screen for entering or editing your Evernote account info and adjusting some other settings.

The test button will check to see if the Evernote account info has been entered correctly. If it is correct a green dot will appear. The Sign up For Evernote button can be used to go to the Evernote signup page to create an account.

The Sort By Status settings tells Nimbulist to always put the unchecked items at the top of the list.

Sound Effects can also be turned on or off.

Still Reading?

In addition to just showing the list items,  Nimbulist also tries to preserve other text you might have in your note. For example, your note in Evernote Might look like this:

The extra text between “Buy New Headphones” and “Buy Milk” is kept with the “Buy New Headphones” list item. If you reorder your notes or they are reordered by Nimbulist, this text will move along with them. This text can be seen, but cannot be edited, in Nimbulist by touching the > symbol at the right of each list entry.
